GOD'S HEALING HAND: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAITH AND HEALING
A growing body of research has found that religious practices, especially those in which one seeks help from God, are positively associated with healthcare outcomes. This series looks at the range of birth to death services provided by the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church faith community, explores the potential of what healing means, what we can do to heal ourselves, and reach out with compassion to help others heal.
September 19 -Healing resources within our congregation. Pastor Gray and Parish Nurse, Joanie Friend, will help participants look at resources within our congregation that promote health and healing (or wholeness of body, mind, and spirit) from birth to death.
September 26 - What does it mean to heal? What can we do to heal ourselves? What can we do to help others heal? Gretchen Gaines, LCSW-C, Social Worker / therapist, and Gail Brown, BHPC Coordinator for Spiritual Life, will lead a review of the current literature, clarify perspectives on what it means to heal and present selected spiritual practices that contribute to healing.
October 3 - Christina Puchalski, MD, Executive Director of the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health and George Washington University Health and Professor of Medicine, will share insights and findings about how patients can work with doctors who respect their spiritual need and how doctors can develop patient-centered practices that integrate spirituality and compassion into their practices. Dr. Puchalski's work and that of the Institute are highly regarded nationally and internationally. Visit the Institute web site at http://www.gwumc.edu/gwish/aboutus/puchalski.cfm.
Join us! Make plans now to stay late (if you are an early service worshipper) or come early if you regularly attend the 10:30 service to take advantage of these opportunities to grow individually and to share within the wider community.
