Nothing Ordinary About It!
Sundays are not always my own-- sometimes I have to work and other times I am spending days with my 90 year old Dad. I imagine you have the same challenge of “not enough days” in the week. Last Sunday I was reminded that when it is my choice, I am at Bradley Hills for worship. Was is a particular event in our liturgical calendar? No. It was Ordinary Time-- and very special.
- Our choir sang Rick Bassett's wonderful “Be Still” introit and his powerful “The Lord Is My Shepherd” with pure tones and lovely precision.
- The children's choir sang joyfully, all of them “Bright and Beautiful,”and loud enough for me to hear!
- Deacon Brigitte Burgett was on the floor with the children, leading them to imagine their gifts and to name them, out loud (!), in the sanctuary.
- Intellectually honest and personally challenging, Jon Smoot invited us to hear Matthew's parable of the talents in a new way; to understand the meaning of naming and name-calling in a new way; to remember that God has named us beloved, peacemakers and merciful; that only when we step away from that Grace do our names and actions move from good to ill.
- Scott's community prayer lifted up our friends and our own needs, reminding us that beloved and apart, we may always petition God for Grace which is given freely.
- A playful Minute for Music invited us to fill-in the missing bell-tone and explore the delight of playing the bells.
- We were witnesses to Todd McCreight's acceptance of his call to discipleship.
- Worship concluded with Kyle Babin's offering to God, his magnificent playing of Trumpet Tune by Aaron David Miller.
- And friends visited in the sanctuary and gathering space, simply enjoying each other.
When your Sundays are your own, choose to restore yourself with Ordinary Time at Bradley Hills Presbyterian, and go out into the world refreshed, loving and knowing you are loved.
Peace,
