January Church School News

Children under age 3 will continue to be in the nursery under the wonderful care of Delcarla and Nora.

Three to five year olds will continue study in the New Testament following the birth of Jesus and important lessons of Jesus’ first visitors: animals welcome baby Jesus, Shepherds and Wise men visit baby Jesus and Angels proclaiming Jesus’ birth.

Worship with Children (K – 2) The students will learn about the early life of Jesus with lessons on the Wise men, Jesus in the Temple and Jesus and the children. We will continue to learn the doxology.

The 3rd to 5th graders The students will begin the New Year focusing on Jesus’ appearance in the Temple as a young boy, and then his baptism and calling of disciples as described in the New Testament. Additionally, the students will work on a service project to support the church’s Kitchen Ministry.

As we continue to enjoy welcoming more families and children to Bradley Hills, the Children’s Ministry Committee has revised and updated the Christian Milestones to help ensure our children’s faith formation. Looking towards the future of Christian Education and our role as a church family, these developmentally appropriate and life-long learning milestones will give shape and guidance to curriculum decisions for preschool age children through youth in our Confirmation class. These milestones will be incorporated into the teachings and programs so that they become bench marks on the faith journey of our children and youth. We hope you will also take the time to support these goals throughout the learning process at home. If you would like any supplemental materials or ideas to help with building this foundational knowledge, please feel free to contact our Director of Christian Education, Noelle Castin.

Mark your calendar for two additional special events this month.

Adult Education Session for Parents on Bullying: Adult Ed will hold a session for parents on bullying on January 22 at 9:15. During this time, there will be an enrichment event for children in Memorial Hall. The children will help support the Kitchen Ministry by making pot holders and other activities.

Worship Workshop for 2nd Graders and their parents: During this 3-session workshop (January 29, February 5, and February 12 at 9:15), children and parents learn together about the sacraments of Baptism and Communion. They will also learn about how our worship service is organized, the special place where we worship, and how we praise God through song. Activities will be hands-on and child-friendly. More information will be sent to the homes of second graders.

The Youth of BHPC will be offering a “Parents Night Out” as a fundraiser for their summer trips. We’ll provide dinner, crafts, games, story time, and a movie for the children while parents take advantage of some much needed free time for errand running, date night, etc. RSVP will be required as space is limited. More details coming soon.  Mark your calendars!

Parent/Child Playgroup

We welcome all parents with young children to enjoy a time to socialize and learn from one another, while playing with their children. The time is spent at different play stations for infants and toddlers, singing nursery rhymes, and eating a small snack. Thanks to some generous donations, we have a bouncy house and some new interactive toys! The group meets every Friday, 10:00am to noon in Memorial Hall. A small fee of $2 for children 1 year old and older is requested to help cover the cost of snacks. Please join if you have babies or toddlers, and let others know too! For more information, please contact Nuria Pearce at 301-229-1357.
