We at Bradley Hills have a rare opportunity to host the author Dr. Alice Rothchild, at a potluck dinner, reception and book discussion on Wednesday, May 14 (6:30-8:30PM), at the home of Marcia and Al Kingman, 5911 Walton Road, Bethesda, MD 20817.
This message is going out early to allow time for members to read the book that she has written, Broken Promises, Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma and Resilience (2007). Dr. Rothchild is a deep thinker, and a passionate advocate for human rights in Israel/Palestine. All in BHPC, in BJC, and in the wider community with interest in this topic, the author, and the stories she has to share are invited to attend, meet the author and actively engage in discussion of the issues she raises.
Who is this author and why is she coming to BHPC? Dr. Alice Rothchild is a Jewish obstetrician/gynecologist who over the years has become involved in Middle East peace efforts and has spent a considerable amount of time in the region working with Palestinian and Israeli women and children. She co-founded and co-chairs the Boston chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, formerly Visions of Peace with Justice in Israel/Palestine, and co-organized the Jewish American Medical Project, now the JVP Health and Human Rights Project. She will be in Washington at the invitation of the Washington Interfaith Alliance for Middle East Peace (WIAMEP), which is sponsoring her visit and inviting churches, synagogues and community leaders to hear her. For more information about this book and its author, go to Dr. Rothchild's website at: www.alicerothchild.com
Nobel Peace Prize winner Bernard Lown, MD, professor emeritus at Harvard School of Public Health, calls Alice Rothchild's 2007 book "a soul searching, painfully honest examination of ordinary people bonded in a tragic embrace." "Ultimately," he remarks, "this powerful book is about healing festering wounds and narrowing irreconcilable differences." (From the WIAMEP introduction)
