"I remember a movie in high school physics showing atoms, and protons and electrons all ping ponging around in a high-speed, cartoonish subatomic whirl. At times my current life resembles that long ago movie. Of course, we are very important subatomic particles with important jobs and important friends and important places to rush off to. My cynicism becomes overwhelming (John Paul Sartre interpreted by Stephen Hawkings?) as I yearn for motive, intent, purpose and reason in my life. I find all of these things and so much more sitting in pew at Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church surrounded by my wife and children—and the grace of a loving and forgiving God.
Sometimes I write down phrases from the Bible (especially Romans and Matthew) and snippets from hymns—all of those words make so much more sense when they are strung together at a Bradley Hills worship service. They are pasted on my car's visor. When I return to the rush hour on I-270 and someone cuts me off, I am no longer a random subatomic particle without intent making rude gestures at the offender. Those words on my visor remind me of who I am—or at least whom I am trying to become. I doubt I'll become that person without God in my life. And I seriously doubt I'll stay well acquainted with God without Bradley Hills in my life."
