My first meeting yesterday was with the mayor of a small town in southern Haiti. He and his community have undergone tremendous suffering as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Homes and businesses destroyed. Cholera has reappeared. Heavy rains which followed the hurricane destroyed crops and set back the recovery. Yet he displayed a strong and most gentle leadership. Gentleness born of wisdom which comes from life experience. Life experience which is pervaded by tremendous faith.
In the Bible, James had something to say about that. As we read James today below, may each of our lives grow in gentle wisdom. May we find our good life through our good works, and in that find a way to help someone in need today. By that work, let us show our wisdom.
From James 3:
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom.”
