As our nation goes to the polls today to pick new leadership we pray for unity, wisdom, vision, peace, and healing for our broken country and politics. We pray for our next president and leaders. We pray for hope for our future. We pray for peaceful transition of power. We pray that God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
As we approach Advent later this month and Christmas in just seven weeks, when we will read from Isaiah 9, we are reminded that the government shall be on His shoulders. We feel strongly about the state of the world and the need for changes in our policy. We also know that all good that we do and all hope that we ultimately have rests on the foundation of our faith in God. Let us lean on the prince of peace, our mighty God, the wonderful counselor, to guide us through this time and to show us the light.
From Isaiah 9 –
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
