May 1:  Dr. R. Bruce Douglass, Director Emeritus of the Reformed Institute of Washington and Associate Professor, Department of Government, Georgetown University, BLACK AND REFORMED IN AMERICA: The Witness of Black Presbyterians – Part III.  Dr. Douglass will present the last of his series of discussions of major Black theologians in the Presbyterian church. You will recall that he discussed the first two, Henry Hyland Garnett (1815-1882) and Francis Grimke (1850-1937), in September of 2021. This discussion will focus on the Rev. Gayraud Wilmore (1921-2020), a significant writer, historian, ethicist, educator, and theologian.  Wilmore led a fascinating, varied life; here is a brief introduction to him.

May 8 and 15:  Associate Pastor Denise Diaab, The Theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was a leader of the theological and moral resistance to the Nazi regime in Germany. A brilliant scholar who completed his doctorate in theology at age 21, Bonhoeffer energetically opposed the Nazi’s takeover of the major Protestant denominations of Germany, and when that failed, was prominent in organizing the Confessing Church, which opposed National Socialism throughout World War II. The Gestapo imprisoned him in April 1943 and executed him in April 1945, as the regime was collapsing. He is a moral giant of modern history.

May 22:  Dr. Karl Klontz, Epidemiologist, Food and Drug Administration, COVID – Where to From Here?  In his fifth and (fingers crossed) last presentation to us about the course of the pandemic, Dr. Klontz will assess where we are, what may lie ahead for the pandemic, and whether a “post-COVID” world is a realistic hope. Dr. Klontz has a gift for presenting data in lively, understandable form. He has been one of our most popular speakers.

May 29:  Memorial Day weekend – no Adult Education.
