For those who need additional support for emotional and spiritual concerns, our two community professionals, Tory Joseph and Caroline Bernhardt-Lanier, are available to provide unique professional counseling services that combine the insights of spiritual traditions and those of the behavioral and social sciences to individuals, couples, families, and groups.

In the intimacy of a one-on-one setting, psychotherapy offers support and guidance for people who are struggling with life transitions, loss, depression, or anxiety.

Tory Joseph is a professional counselor for the Imago Center of DC in Bethesda and Washington. She is a Certified Parent Educator at the Parent Encouragement Program in Kensington, Maryland, where she has been teaching classes for 20 years, and coaching parents on positive parenting methods. Tory has a Masters Degree in Counseling from Boston University and a Post Masters Certificate in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. She is married and has three adult children, ages 28, 26 and 22, and lives in Bethesda, Maryland.

Caroline Bernhardt-Lanier is a pastoral counselor at the Imago Center and a leader with the Parent Encouragement Program since 2009. Caroline is passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families experience healing, connection, and joy in their relationships. She holds an M.S. in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University and a M.Ed. from Harvard University. Caroline has been married for 22 years and is the mother of four children, loves good books, the ocean, and dark chocolate.
