Can You Help Distribute Groceries in Anacostia?
BHPC is proud to support Faith Presbyterian Church’s “Feeding Families” project. Each month, volunteers pack 60 grocery bags at the church in Anacostia and then help distribute them on the church property. BHPC volunteers will help Faith’s team from 9:00–10:40 am, rain or shine. Adults, families, and teens are welcome.
Food need has recently increased in their neighborhood, and Faith is now asking us for help each month. You can sign up on Sign-Up Genius or send Joan Burns an email.
Watering Plants
Recent plantings by the 6601 Creation Care Club have added colorful new additions to our grounds, particularly around the Cross Garden, the education doors, the planters outside the Memorial Hall doors, and the beds in between the two. The planting of perennials and native plants, however, comes with a lot of watering responsibility. BHPC member, Mike Kline, is doing the bulk of the watering, and we don’t want to burn him out. If you have 20 minutes during the week to help water these areas, it would be a greatly appreciated! Please sign up for a time in advance using Sign Up Genius:

Meals for Lon’s House and Becky’s House
For many years Bradley Hills has fed the hungry through a ministry with shelters for those who would otherwise be homeless. We have partnered with Interfaith Works to provide dinner once a month to Becky’s House, a shelter for eight women and Lon’s House, a home for eight men both located in Rockville.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to broaden this ministry by giving those who deliver the dinner the option to stay, serve and dine with the residents. This is an option and not required. We are hoping to create a sense of community with those we are providing food for.
Smart Sacks: A Family-Friendly Serving Opportunity
Smart Sacks is on hiatus for the summer, but will be back in the fall. Thanks to all who contribute to this vital mission.
Smart Sacks is a family-friendly serving opportunity that occurs right after the 10:30 a.m. service to pack sacks of food for families in Montgomery County Public Schools who are food insecure.
We need volunteers to:
· Help us set up on Sunday mornings: We need volunteers to help set up the Smart Sack stations before the assembly. Volunteers will need to be able to do some lifting in order to help with set up.
· Help us pack and assemble the Smart Sacks: An opportunity for the whole family! Join us immediately after the 10:30 a.m. worship service to pack and assemble the sacks that will go to the families for the following weekend.
· Help us deliver assembled Smart Sacks: We need volunteers to deliver food during the week to designated public schools. Volunteers who would like to deliver will also need to be able to do some lifting as well.
Interested in joining the Smart Sacks team? Contact Elaine Henderson or Jim Kettler during the Smart Sacks assembly time after the 10:30 am worship.
